The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with the Kogi state government as part of the effort of the NNPC to set up a bio-fuel plant and refinary I the state.
The governor of Kogi State, Governor Bello Yahya pointed out that the project is expected to to create more than two million jobs which will in turn reduce the rate of insecurity in the state.
“With this MoU between Kogi State and NNPC, over two million citizens and residence of Kogi State will have job as a result of this cassava and sugarcane development project that will be feeding the bio-fuel refinery that is coming up in the state. “By multiplier effect, Kogi State will be more secure because the youth will leave the streets.
“Then as a state, we are committed to providing security and enabling environment for this project, to ensure that it is a success and it matures and benefits the good people of the state and Nigeria at large.
“From Kogi state, there is no financial commitment so far. However, we are approaching the African Development Bank, where we intend to secure their commitment and ensure that we have enough funds to develop infrastructure all around the state for the production of cassava for the project,” the Governor said.
The group Managing director of NNPC, Mr. Maikanti Baru, speaking at the event disclosed the bio-fule project was part of the corporation plan to increase the of bio-fuels across the country.
