The issue of pollution has been a long problem which has not stopped greeting the Niger -Delta region, as it has affected the land, air and the sea.
Fishermen and women have been at the mercy of the pollution as their catches are usually little.
This they said can be attributed to pollution in the water and poor fishing net and tools, hence environmental organisations Fishnet Alliance and HOMEF decided to visit the Fishers with fishing nets to help ease the issue of bad catch
The director HOMEF Nnimmo Bassey during the visit to the fishers stated that the essence of the distribution was to encourage and set up the existing system of protecting the aquatic biodiversity within the Niger delta region and the country at large.
Nnimmo further spoke on the lessons that should be learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic while some community members and fishermen expressed gratitude to the organization for bringing such palliatives to them.
The environmentalist task government agencies to begin to penalize oil polluters for destroying the environment and to stop the threat against the aquatic ecosystem.
