It’s the start of a new month and like most of us, I am wondering how we can benefit our health by eating healthy. I have tried to eat healthy all year but my efforts are to no avail as I keep consuming lots of red meat, pizzas and shawarmas.” Well, we all have insecure days I presume but eating healthy has never hurt anyone.
It is worthy of note that proper nutrition is a vital but often overlooked factor of preventive care and disease management. Following a plant-based diet, in particular, has been shown to have dramatic effects on health and well-being in a relatively short period of time.
A study was carried out recently on 19 nurses, each of them was required to eat a certain amount of vegetarian food for a period of 21 days – almost a whole month. The results were amazing
The study showed that after the 21 days of healthy vegetarian diet;
Ten of the nurses lost weight, with an average weight loss of 2kg; from a range of 0.7 to 4 kg.
Six of the nurses reported gains in energy.
Seventy-four percent of the nurses (14 out of 19) lowered their cholesterol, with a mean average of 18 mg/dL.
six of those 14 lowered their cholesterol by a notable 45 to 60 mg/dL.
Eight of them reported feeling highly satisfied with their health, while only one nurse reported this before the test began.
After the program concluded, the nurses reported eating more fruit and vegetables on a regular basis.
After the program concluded, the nurses reported eating less meat and dairy.
“Large bodies of research show a plant-based vegan diet boosts weight loss, lowers blood pressure, improves cholesterol, and stabilises blood sugar,” says Neal Barnard, a medical doctor and an adjunct associate professor of medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. “He also added by saying We now have preliminary evidence that this way of eating boosts energy, too. The secret is to stick with the prescription since the health benefits last as long as you’re putting the dietary principles into practice. We can benefit our health by eating healthy.
A plant-based vegan diet is not a fad diet, but a rewarding approach to eating, a new approach to health, and a new approach to life.”Significantly, these statistics show that healthy eating definitely proffers a lot of good than the consumption of red meat and other cholesterol filled products.
