The Kano State Government says there were 400 recorded suspected cases of acute watery diarrhea while 50 out of them was confirmed to be cases of cholera across 33 local governments areas of the state in the last seven months.
The statistic was made known by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kabiru Getso while speaking with newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.
Speaking further, he said there were 28 deaths out of the 50 cases recorded within the year under review.
The Health Commissioner revealed the state government put necessary measures in place to control the cholera outbreak.
He said further that some of the measures include setting up uninterrupted surveillance in all zones that are prone to the disease and active search for cases of diarrhea and vomiting.
According to Dr. Getso, the sum of N32million Naira was released by the Kano state government to help in fighting the cholera outbreak in the state.
“The team will respond and investigate any rumored cases in the state and provision and repositioning of emergency medical supplies and consumables in facilities,” The Commissioner said.
He emphasized the need for key stakeholders such as civil societies, community-based organization and the media to join in fighting the disease.
Speaking on the first round of 2018 maternal, newborn and child health week which started on Monday, he said the one-week activities would provide health services for mothers and their children using the system on ground.
He enjoined husbands to allow and encourage their family utilize the free services.
