An Abuja based Medical Doctor, Dr. Okezie Emenike has warned members of the public about the danger of skipping breakfast.
The medical doctor while speaking with NAN said patients who skip breakfast are at a risk of developing life-threatening diseases like diabetes, cancer, and others.
Speaking further, Dr. Emenike said skipping breakfasts lowers a person’s body metabolism. He added that metabolism is the ability of the body to burn calories and not eating in the morning would leave the body to burn out.
In his own words, “By regularly skipping morning meals you are more susceptible to weight gain and at an increased risk of atherosclerosis, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol
“Keeping your metabolism firing is essential for burning fat and calories when trying to lose weight.
“Regular eating of healthy meals will help to prevent the development of low blood sugar levels and also boost metabolism as well as helps maintain good blood sugar levels which are very beneficial to achieving weight loss.
“Skipping breakfast lowers the metabolism and the ability to burn fat and calories and it also hampers weight loss efforts.
“Small, regular meals, starting with breakfast is a great way to fire up your metabolism and keep your weight loss on track,” he concluded.
He also revealed skipping breakfast could lead to loss of concentration leading to low-performance rate.
He, therefore, urged the people to make eating breakfast a priority as it helps control cravings and keep the body full as well as sustain metabolism burning which is needed in order to maintain a healthy weight.
