NCDC Denies Lassa Fever Report in Asokoro District Hospital

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has denied the report that there is a suspected case of Lassa fever in the Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja.

The NCDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu appealed to Nigerians to disregard such report as there is no suspected case at the hospital.

According to the press statement released by the agency, there is no recorded case of Lassa fever in the FCT since February 2019.

He said the agency has been alerted to a message going viral on the social media urging members of the public to stay away from Asokoro District Hospital.

He said this is entirely untrue, describing the report as “false and baseless”.

“The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) urges members of the public to disregard the message as it is untrue and baseless,” he said.

The Medical Director of Asokoro District Hospital, Uche Afiomah also urged the people to discard the message.

She revealed the message as an untrue message which has been circulated over a year ago.

She assured the FCT Public Health has put adequate measures in place to handle such an event.
