NAFDAC Seizes Fake Alcoholic Wines in Edo - Natural Junkie

The National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken possession of up to 90 cartons of a fake brand of alcoholic wine called ‘Fidossi Spumante’ drinks.

This was made known by NAFDAC Assistant Director in Edo, Mr Esther Itua in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“We were after Festa Spumante. The registered brand of this particular drink is Fidossi Spumante.

“Festa Spumante does not have NAFDAC registration number on it, this brand of drink did not pass through the normal process.

“NAFDAC is the body that controls, regulates exportation and importation and use of regulated products. This particular drink falls under food which is part of what NAFDAC regulates.

“The company that produces the brand is supposed to have come through NAFDAC, (and) we do an inspection of the facility abroad.

“The selling of fake drinks and other regulated products is not on the increase because the agency is not resting in its fight against counterfeit regulated products.

“The consumption of counterfeit drinks could cause kidney problems,” she said.

Mrs Esther urged consumers to be watchful and make sure they purchase products with NAFDAC registration numbers and still within the shelf-life period.

She also called on members of the public to report suspected dealers of fake and expired products t a NAFDAC office closest to them.
