In response to an alert from the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) on the outbreak of Listeriosis in part of Europe, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over the importation of contaminated mixed frozen vegetables into the country.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye revealed INFOSAN received the information from European Rapid Alert System on Food and Feed (RASFF) and has since confirmed compromised vegetables was shipped into the country through a Pinguin brand.
She added the shipment has been placed on hold to avoid being distributed or sold to the public.
First Responders Team (FRT) created by NAFDAC to embark on a nationwide survey in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja has recovered about 3,300kg of implicated products.
