The Medical Director of Federal Medical Center Lokoja, Dr. Olatunde Alabi has confirmed a medical doctor working at the hospital has been diagnosed with the dreaded disease Lassa fever.
The Medical Director who briefed newsmen on Saturday in Lokoja revealed the new case was discovered on the January 19.
Speaking further on the development, Alabi said a blood sample taken from the doctor was taken to the Federal Medical Center, Irrua, Edo state for test adding that the Doctors has been transferred to Irrua for more medical attention.
Following the incidence, Alabi disclosed the center has begun efforts to trace the root of the disease in order to discover if anyone is infected within the community the doctor resides.
He, however, advised members of the public to endeavor to report cases of fever as soon as possible.
He also urged them to take steps to eliminate rats in their homes and environment adding that food stuff like rice, beans, garri maize shout be kept in air tight containers to prevent contamination by rodents, most especially rats.
