The Rivers state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association has advised residents in the state to engage 15 to 30 minutes walk every day, in other to kick out diseases in their body.
Chairman of the NMA in Rivers state Dr Adebiyi Obelebra made this known at the end of the 5KM walk with doctors to kick start the annual general meeting of the association in Port-Harcourt.
Fielding questions from newsmen, the NMA Chairman and a fitness instructor spoke on the benefits of exercise to the human body.
Some of the doctors also spoke about the importance of exercise to the body in carrying out daily activities without undue fatigue.
Speaking on the fitness event, Dr Datonye Alasia said, “it’s being good because it is a collaboration between doctors and members of the public.
“Large crowd, people had fun, we walked over 5 kilometres with some aerobics and dance, it’s been a very good day
“Just to emphasize what everyone has said, medicine still remains one of the best medicines that anyone can have, so we encourage everyone to keep on walking and to keep staying fit and healthy.
Another medical practitioner, Dr. said fitness, exercise can actually solve health problems, we have them on our posters everywhere
“Half of hypertension and diabetes will no, longer have issues if they are physically fit by doing enough physical activities, that is 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activities a week. That is about 30 minutes a day, five days a week
The theme for the 2019 annual general meeting for the Nigerian doctors is Social Determinant Of Health And Environmental Factors as it affects the people.
