Benue State Ministry of Health says it has put all its health facility on red alert to curb any spread of Lassa fever in case there is any such outbreak in the state.
This is coming after an affected person carrying the virus from a neighboring state died in an undisclosed place in Benue after he was identified.
Lassa fever has been declared a very dangerous disease which can be contacted physically, living in unhygienic environment and through rodents.
The state Health Commissioner, Dr Sunday Ogbabo, who spoke to newsmen at the secretariat in Makurdi over the incident, said the diseased person was singled out because of its proactive health structure, assuring the people not to be afraid.
The state Health Commissioner, Dr Ogbabo, emphasized the need for people to leave a clean life adding that it has also stepped up sensitization on the dangers of contracting Lassa fever.
Meanwhile, the state ministry of health said it’s monitoring the situation as well as tracking all contacts including families to ensure the virus does not spread.
