Delta Govt Insists Residents Must Leave Flood Prone Areas

The Delta state commissioner for information Charles Aniagwu has reiterated the state government position for those living in flood prone areas to relocate.

This is coming after several threats by residents of flood prone communities to remain as a result of the state government inability to provide settlement camps for them.

Addressing newsmen after the state executive council meeting in Asaba, the information commissioner said government is doing all they can to prevent flooding as directed by NEMA.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had called on residents in flood prone areas to vacate during the previous executive council meeting, while also promising to bring down structures obstructing water channels across the state.

It sould also be recalled that some states across the federation had been names as high risk for flood by the National Emergency Agency (NEMA).
