A medical consultant at the University Teaching Hospital, Jos (JUTH) has revealed abuse of painkillers, strong antibiotics and self-medication could lead to kidney failure.
The medical doctor, who is also a Nephrologist said this while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Tuesday.
He noted using drugs such as antibiotics and painkillers could lead to kidney damage which may result in kidney failure.
Speaking further, he added not managing diseases like hypertension and diabetes could damage the kidney if not properly managed.
He said, “People who are in a habit of taking excessive salt and certain herbal concoctions can induce damage to the kidney.
The medical practitioner advised people with a family history of kidney failure to go for regular failure as kidney disease can be hereditary.
Speaking further, he urged the people to take preventive measures by regularly checking their blood sugar level and blood pressure.
“My advice to people is that they should ensure they eat healthy food and take only prescribed drugs as directed by medical expert,’’ Gimba said.
